Mission Objective

In 2013, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) was reimagined to make it the premier professional sports team charity in the nation. The foundation refined its focus to tackle Angelenos’ most pressing problems, including education, health care, homelessness, and social justice. In celebration of its 10th anniversary, LADF hosted the 2023 Blue Diamond Gala, a star-studded, blue-carpet affair to raise money for its impactful initiatives and empowering programs. LADF enlisted Rocket Launch to lead public relations and earned media strategies for the gala to support LADF’s goal of raising awareness and vital dollars.

Strategic Flight Plan

Rocket Launch developed public relations and media relations strategies centered around three overarching objectives: (1) Create regional and national awareness of LADF’s work and the Blue Diamond Gala; (2) Support fundraising efforts through storytelling to raise $3 million; and (3) Position LADF with media as a top-tier nonprofit providing essential support, services, and programs to improve education, health care, homelessness, and social justice for all Angelenos.

The Rocketeers developed a media relations plan for publications, outlets, and journalists within the sports, entertainment, local community, and BIPOC verticals. From Access Hollywood to People Magazine, Rolling Stone, and all local L.A. TV and radio broadcast stations, the storytelling and interview opportunities presented an avenue to heighten the awareness of LADF’s work to audiences outside of the game of baseball.

Mission Results

The Rocket Launch crew executed its media relations plan and accomplished all Blue Diamond Gala project objectives. Gala news resonated well with L.A. and national media, including interviews and feature stories with LADF executives, LA Dodgers athletes, celebrity talent, LADF community partners and brand ambassadors.
